Where Are The Heros?
Wednesday, February 1st, 2006My righty friend, Leucanthemum, writes for her local paper from somewhere outside the blue island of Chicagoland political demographics. On Fridays, she posts them here. This week she pipes in on the President’s speech and the Democratic response is engendered. I didn’t bother to watch the state of the union address or, rather, I couldn’t bear the watching. Instead, as years past, I spend the next evening trolling the internet for the juicy bits.
There aren’t any.
Besides the windblown and half-hearted call for addiction recovery (who gets to fund this, I ponder) , and his “vision” for a “robust US role” in global affairs (we’ve seen where that gets us), the rest of the speech seemed as refried as TEX-MEX beans. And just as colorful.
But My aforementioned friend, despite her Malkin-esque character assessments, has a point I (very grudgingly) agree upon: The Democratic Party is as cohesive as a toss salad - bits and chunks in disarray. Look how effective they were stopping Alito. Or John Bolton.
My party-of-choice must get its act together or we’ll just have more of the same from a new puppet, while the same puppeteers remain behind the scenes twitching the wires. She’s right also (ohh, that hurt!) about Governor Dean’s propaganda being detrimental. Quit attacking, dude! While the incumbents are imploding, its time to step forward and propose an alternative. Show me what you’ll do different, then win some races and make it happen. Leave the activism to Cindy Sheehan, John Bonifaz, and their friends.
We lefty bloggers have been pleading for leardership. The Democratic Party is humming along, but not picking up the tune. Where are the heros? Not sandwiches… Is that my stomach growling? All these food references…
I think I’ll get some dinner.
