Numb and Numb-er

The latest scandal in the Bush administration: Walter Reed Hospital. It was all over Air America Friday, how during Rumsfeld’s watch the hospital treated soldiers in awful conditions, that the powers-that-be did nothing, that the General in during those years charge gained a promotion and his predecessor came, saw, and blew the whistle - then was fired. Then, last week, the guy who pretended there was no squalor was reinstated. Now the high-profile quitting / firing of Secretary of the Army Francis Harvey is paraded across the news wire (details vary), speechifying commences to fool the nation into thinking our incumbents are proactive and they actually care.

This comes before the last scandal has dies down. The White House is still doing damage control over the firings of US Attorneys unsympathetic to conservative agenda. No doubt Bush advisors thought at the time the move would remain under the radar, but the news hounds have sunk teeth into this story and it won’t go away. Two scandals at a time; the Bush Administrations’ house of cards is falling ever faster.

Umm, excuse me… (Yawn…) This is so commonplace it’s become boring. Incompetence, Disinterest, Damage control. Support The Troops ™! Yeah, right…

The latest weather related crisis: Winter tornados. GWB flies out to Alabama to pretend to care some more, and for an opportunity to hug a couple of cute white girls conveniently in front of a camera. Then he went to a microphone and commiserated how tragic it is that this happened to an affluent, white community, promptly declaring a federal disaster area. Now they can expect to receive the same careful assistance their neighbors in Louisiana have enjoyed. CNN’s headline says it all: Bush to America: ‘Help the Folks Down Here.’

Isn’t that touching? He said the same thing for Katrina survivors. It’s almost like he knows the government can’t do anything… I guess that’s better than the president’s take on how the commons could support the war, way back when. Something like: "What can America do? Go Shopping." (Okay, I’m paraphrasing a bit. I can’t find the actual quote on Google this morning. Sue me.) Didn’t he say the same thing after 9/11? "Go to Disneyland."

Are there still people who rally behind this Nimrod?
