Tannish Design
Who Is This Tannish Guy?
…And why would I trust him to build my web site?
I trained for mainframe programming, earned unfortunately while the computing world was moving to distributed networks. The career path dried up quickly. My love of computers remained as did my logic and programming skills. As the World Wide Web was the place to be, I gathered all the books I could on coding and design, operating systems and ecommerce, hoping to earn back some of my student loans. At first this was easy, until the technology became complicated and started demanding teams of specialists. Meanwhile, I worked and reworked my personal sites, reinventing, experimenting and learning.
Recently, I've seen a major change in the field of web development toward simplicity. It is not desirable to own a mammoth, static site of vast complexity. Standards like CSS are introduced to regain and quickly maintain a dynamic presence in the ever-changing webscape.
In a space where small companies can level the playing field, where simplicity and dynamism is expected, there is room for a rogue web designer, unhindered by corporate restraints. I offer my services, as a personalized, affordable designer of quality, powerful web sites.
Philosophy:
Whatever happened to the "Renaissance Man" line of thinking? Being capable of a number of tasks used to be viewed as a positive trait. My grandfather was the proverbial Jack-of-all-trades, and in his day that allowed him to feed his family better. Not so anymore.
These days everyone specializes. Only specialists who can prove their worth through deliverance of credentials in the form of diplomas get steady work. This leaves out a large pool of talent able to deliver results in a timely, inexpensive manner, who also infuse a love of the work and its attendant joy throughout the process. The reason is obvious: too many people believe it is standard practice to misrepresent themselves during the hiring/negotiation process. They lie, and employers have been burned.
Those who lie to get work cannot deliver results, eventually losing their job and often becoming resentful. Employers institute directives to combat dishonesty, spending more to find qualified talent and spawning a new industry in the process. This new layer of industrial-strength candidate scrutiny make it tougher for the employer and for the worker who just wants to feed his family. Everyone loses. So much for the modern state of employer/employee relations.
I walk the old road. I pride myself on owning a craftsman's mentality toward my work. It is a concrete expression of self and a lasting impression. Why do anything if you don't give it your best shot?
The Work:
At Tannish Design, I attempt to express a Renaissance Man philosophy while building quality web presences. Using industry standards, inventive solutions and good, old-fashioned hand coding, I build web sites that work without being overworked. They shine without pretense and enhance the message and content without overshadowing.
Yes, I am a "Weekend Warrior" web designer. I love to build sites. Each project I implement is an expression of my love of computing. Try to find that attitude in your upscale downtown Web Design Firm. Your needs are my criteria. Never will I attempt to steer you toward a cookie-cutter, pre-processed site tweaked from a template.
